Brave Beauty

I recently had the opportunity to review the Faithgirlz book Finding the Fearless You:  Brave Beauty.  This is an inspiring devotional book for girls between the ages of 8 and 12. There are 100 power-packed mini-chapters covering relevant topics such as self-worth, family, friends, value, forgiveness, salvation, loving difficult people, self-esteem, body changes, peer pressure; etc. These topics are dispersed among three different books sections entitled "I am Loved," "I am Brave," and "I am Confident."   I love how those sections read like positive affirmations of traits that I would want for my tween to embrace. This devotional can definitely help young ladies grasp these concepts early on in life as they start their journey into womanhood.

There are some really wonderful features throughout this devotional. One feature is "Getting to Know You."  Whenever there is a little text box for "Getting to Know You,"  tween readers are encouraged to answer multiple choice questions about themselves. Inner reflection is definitely a great way to help readers relate to the devotional contents. For practical application, there are some "Becoming Brave" sections, which encourage readers to do something about what they read. For instance, on page 163, girls are encouraged to choose a Bible verse from the devotional that they read that day and to look it up in their own Bible. After that, they are encouraged to underline it and put the verse somewhere to read again. Additionally, there are sections called "Courageous Call."  These sections contain a prayer.

The author does a fantastic job of bringing up situations that young girls will relate to: having their bodies change, having their faces break out, dealing with situations that seem unfair, dealing with disappointment; etc.  I was thrilled to see the author point the reader to Jesus--not to self-actualization--but to the One who really can help girls through their various situations.  This book is a great tool to have in one's spiritual arsenal to help point girls to knowing and relating to the One who makes us feel loved, brave, and confident. Biblical stories and Biblical truths in this book clearly point young ladies to the correct source for finding those traits.

I was very impressed with this book and definitely plan on having my daughter read it.

I was given this book by Handlebar in exchange for an honest review.  The views expressed in this review are solely mine.
